Application Letter Part 1

Definition of Application Letter

An application letter or job application letter is a document that is sent to company leaders or recruiters to apply for jobs. This letter contains specific interests, qualifications, and experiences that are deemed relevant to fill the available job vacancies.

This job application letter should highlight your achievements and skills in order to attract the attention of the recruiter or HRD. When well written, this cover letter will explain to the reader why they should invite you for an interview and assess you as a good fit for the available vacancy.

A good job application letter can catch the attention of a recruiter or HRD and set you apart from other candidates. Show that your professional goals and aspirations align with the company's goals to get your cover letter noticed.

Structure of Job Application Letter (Cover Letter)

When writing a job application letter, consider the steps below to include the information you include complete and interesting to the job recruiter.

1. Use the Official Format

Job application letters must be written professionally and in formal language. The document format must include single spacing, one inch margins and left alignment. We recommend using the Times New Roman font in a size from 10 to 12 points.

Try to make your job application letter on one page so that it is concise. This is so that your cover letter will be noticed and leave an impression as a prospective professional employee.

2. Create Headings

Don't forget to use formal headings for your job application letter. This title should include your name and contact information, the date and the name and address of the company.

If you're sending a job application letter via email, you can omit your name and contact information from the header and place it at the bottom of the email after your signature.

Example:

[Name]

[Your city and zip code]

[Your phone number]

[Your e-mail address]

{Date]

[Name of hiring manager or supervisor]

[Title of hiring manager or supervisor]

[Company name]

[Company physical address]

By including professional and detailed headings, you can make it easier for recruiters to follow up or contact you from the available contacts.

3. Address the Letter to the Hiring Manager or HRD

Before writing a job application letter, you should find the name of the party who will review the application letter. Address your job application letter to this person with a formal greeting, 'Dear Mr/Ms', and their name.

If you are having trouble finding the right address for the recruiter, you can write, 'Dear (full name of HRD)' or 'Dear Hiring Manager'.

Linguistic rules refer to common language features found in a text. The language rule contained in the text of the application letter is passive voice
