News Item part 1

Understanding News Text

News text is a report that contains a news or event which then has journalistic value and has news value. This definition was put forward by Herman RN through a book entitled Practical Journalism. In addition to what was conveyed by German RN, there are still many experts who then explain the definition of news paragraphs.

Although the sentences are slightly different, the meaning remains the same, namely a text or report that describes a news and event. Through the above understanding it can be seen that not all news and events can be used as news. Why? Because not all events around us have journalistic and news value.

If the news is the latest information about an event, are you who have eaten three times a day including news topics that have journalistic value? A new incident or event is made news and poured into the news text when it is "worthy" to be called news.

Namely describing an important event, which then affects the lives of many people or even the world. The jam is also information that is considered interesting by the public eye. So that your activity of eating three times a day does not meet these criteria, unless the one doing it is an artist like Raisa or others.

News Text Features

In order to be able to distinguish which news and events can be raised as news topics. So recognize the characteristics of the news paragraph itself, namely:

The text contains news that is actually happening in the field, so it does not include the opinions, essays, or ideas of the author.

The title in the text or news paragraph represents the entire content of the paragraph or text.

Using effective language so that it is easy to understand, complete, effective, and also able to captivate the readers.

The events that are poured into the news text are delivered sequentially or chronologically, so that the reader can know the events from the beginning to the end in detail.

The data presented or written in the news paragraph is presented completely, according to the context, and then can be verified by the readers themselves.

Some news paragraphs have or contain layered truths, layered truths are truths that continue to change rapidly, ie between minutes to so many can be different. An example is news regarding the update on the number of Covid-19 patients and also a quick count during elections.

Conveys time, place, and source validly.

Always contain elements of 5W + 1 H (who, where, when, what, why, and also how).

Correct Structure of News Text

1. News Orientation

The first part or structure in the news paragraph is the news orientation which is then also known as the opening part. In this section the author will briefly explain an event, so that the reader can find out what information will be read in the text of the next section.

2. Events

The second part is the event, where the author will describe the events in as much detail and completeness as possible and presented chronologically or sequentially. Submission of news in the form of text must be verified so that it is confirmed that the truth is valid. So it will not cause miscommunication and disinformation.

3. News Source

The next section is to list or mention the source of the news, which generally comes from the interview and reporting process. The news sources themselves include press releases, sources, experts, reports, statistical data, letters, and various official documents.
